Untreated Green Waste

Garden/Green waste as the name suggests, is made up of organic waste that you would find in your garden. This includes things like small trees, branches, and grass & plant clippings.

Garden/Green waste can be recycled into compost at a local mulching facility so we need to ensure it meets the following requirements;

  • No soil
  • No treated timber
  • No contaminated waste
  • No non-organic material

If you have any food scraps or branches/trees over 20cm in diameter, please advise upon enquiry.

Construction &      Demolition Waste

Construction and demolition waste contains a mixture of timber, metal, concrete, bricks and other common building materials. General rubbish can also be put into these skips.

Construction and demolition waste is transported to our transfer station, where we sort through the waste and separate recyclable materials like metals and concrete to divert as much as possible from landfill. Please advise us if you intend to put large quantities of soil, concrete or metal into your skip. This will allow us to provide you with the best advice in order to dispose of this waste in the most cost effective manner.

Please ensure you do not put any liquids or dangerous goods in the skip, including:

  • Asbestos
  • Chemicals & contaminated materials
  • Liquids (including wet paint, concrete & plaster)
  • Pressurised containers e.g. Gas Bottles & Fire Extinguishers

   Masonry Only

Putting masonry products into your mixed waste skip can be a costly exercise, as they are extremely heavy materials. If you have larger quantities to dispose of, you may like to consider a masonry only skip. Pre-sorted masonry is charged at a lower disposal rate than mixed waste. If you have enough to fill a skip it can provide a saving to separate masonry from your household or builders waste.

  Metal Only

Metals are 100% recyclable materials. There is no charge for the disposal of pre-sorted metal, only for the transport if required.

Soil

Many building projects and sometimes home renovations will result in large quantities of excess soil. Some waste management facilities will accept soil at no cost if you can provide a certificate to prove that it is VENM (Virgin Excavated Natural Material). This product can be easily re-used. In these cases we charge customers, only for the transport of the soil.

If your soil does not meet the requirements of VENM but is not contaminated e.g. most backyard soil, disposal can be quite affordable, however certification to prove there is no chemical contamination may be required.

If the soil has come from a construction site, particularly if the site has previously been used for farming or other commercial activities, you will almost certainly be required to have the soil tested and provide certification to the waste management facility, proving there is no contamination. We can provide this service or advice on the best course of action.

If your soil is contaminated, all those involved in the excavation, transport and disposal of the soil are required to adhere to relevant EPA requirements. This involves transport to an authorised disposal facility and may require tracking and permits for disposal. If you have contaminated soil we are happy to provide an approved disposal option for you.

Asbestos

According to Safe Work NSW around 4000 people die every year from asbestos related diseases. If you have asbestos in your home or on your building site it is important to ensure you follow the safe work NSW guidelines for handling asbestos to ensure you do not become a statistic. For more information visit, https://www.safework.nsw.gov.au/hazards-a-z/asbestos

Asbestos is dangerous not only to people but to the environment. The EPA regulates the transport and disposal of asbestos waste, which is defined as any waste containing asbestos. We regularly provide skips for asbestos disposal. If you intend to use a skip for asbestos disposal you must notify us when booking delivery of your skip.

There are two types of asbestos, friable and non-friable. Friable asbestos is any material which contains asbestos in powder form or any asbestos which can be crumbled by hand pressure. Non-friable asbestos is any other material that contains asbestos, including asbestos pipe and bonded asbestos.

Friable asbestos must be sealed in containers ensuring that no particles can escape and containers will not break open when they are tipped out of the skip. Friable asbestos must be removed by a licensed professional.

Non-friable asbestos must be wetted and double wrapped in heavy duty builder’s plastic at least 0.2mm thick. It must be sealed with thick heavy duty tape, ensuring there are no holes and the packages will not break open when they are tipped out of the skip.

To ensure packages do not break open it is a good idea to wrap sheets individually. Do not break or cut sheets to make them smaller. Where it is not practical to wrap asbestos in small packages or individual sheets, please contact us to discuss wrapping requirements.

If you have more than 10m2 of non-friable asbestos it must be removed by a licensed professional.

If asbestos is found in any mixed waste load the entire load will be treated as asbestos.

Other Waste

We handle the transport and disposal of many different waste types/products on a regular basis. Those that you have read about here are just a few. If you have waste/products that do not fall into any of these categories, please feel free to give us a call for advice and quotation for the disposal or transport to a recycling/processing facility.

Any waste which is hazardous or contaminated will have strict transport and disposal requirements governed by the EPA. If you have any type of hazardous or contaminated waste please contact us for a quotation and information on disposal under EPA law.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. Will you pay me for my scrap metal?

    A. Generally we are not scrap metal merchants but subject to the volumes and weight of the steel in question, we can offer a service that considers what’s involved. Disposal charges can be avoided on most occasions or alternatively you can drop your scrap metal in to our transfer station, Richmond Resource Recovery, at no cost.

  • Q. I have a little bit of general waste to get rid of. Can I put it in a skip with Green waste?

    A. You can put almost anything in your skip as long as you advise us when you book. It may however, be more cost effective to separate certain waste types such as green waste and general waste, depending on the quantities you have to dispose of.

  • Q. What if I need a skip for an extended period of time?

    A. If you need a skip for an extended period of time this can be arranged. Subject to service requirements, this can happen at no extra cost.

  • Q. Can I get a skip on site permanently?

    A. Yes you can organise to have a skip on site indefinitely and subject to service requirements we can arrange a quotation to suit.

  • Q. I want a skip in my yard. Can it be lifted over my fence/hedge?

    A. This request will need to be assessed on a case by case basis but is often possible with our 4m3 skips. Our larger skips use a hook lift mechanism and as a result are unable to be lifted over anything.
